Nicaragua
finishes in seventh position
MAYAGUEZ, Puerto Rico, July 23, 2010 – Nicaragua finished in
seventh position in the women’s volleyball tournament of the XXI
Central American Games after a 3-0 (25-19, 25-21, 25-20) victory
over Barbados.
Bertha Fierro scored 18 points to lead the winning side while
Amalia Hernandez and Hellen Traña added 13 and 10 points
respectively. Shari Matthews registered 11 tallies for the
defeated side.
“We are satisfied with this victory and with the learning
experience of playing against teams of a superior level,”
Nicaraguan coach Rene Quintana said. “Today’s match was a very
close one as the sets’ score reflects.”
“I hope this experience will help our team for the Caribbean
Championship,” Barbados’ coach Andrew Bratwaite said. “We need
to have a strong show in that tournament in order to continue
taking part in NORCECA events.”
